CALIFORNIA MODERN

Ever the preservationists, we had to put on a more contemporary lens to approach this pristinely maintained mid-century abode in Summit, New Jersey. Truly bathed in light from every angle - from sky lights to 20' walls of windows - we ran with muted roman plaster walls in lieu of walnut cladding, and we never looked back. Through re-establishing a formative entrance with it a designated coat closet, we were able to remove other storage obstacles that were blocking the flow of the living room to the lounge. By adding a powder room upstairs and full bath and mudroom in the lower level, we were able to favour a laundry room over an extra bathroom and maintain function on both floors. A full overhaul of the primary suite was also in order, allowing for his and her's custom closets, a generous primary bath and even a home office fit for a beauty queen...  er... executive. And of course, we tackled that chef's kitchen, too.
